Take-Two continues to remove GTA mods

Take-Two contacted a popular mod site and used DMCA warnings to remove many GTA mods, including two popular mods for GTA 4.

According to ScreenRant, Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive continues to issue DMCA takedown orders to remove Grand Theft Auto (GTA) mods and fan projects, with GTA 4 being the latest target of the series. the company.

Take-Two recently took down GTA mods heavily related to PS2-era games, leading to a lot of speculation that these mods are thwarting plans for a GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive remake. Edition in early October. And yes it did.

Previously, Take-Two limited GTA mods on the grounds that these creative actions were 'bad behavior' or harmful to the 'economy' of the company. As a result, Take-Two's legal team has regularly threatened and filed lawsuits against numerous fan-made GTA works. The publisher of this game recently filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against a group of 14 developers who successfully reverse-engineered the source code for both GTA 3 and Vice City, and subsequently uploaded the mod versions for free. on the Internet. This project allows both games to be easily ported to a wide variety of consoles and has lots of bug fixes. The mod team has also filed an objection to Take-Two and the ongoing lawsuit remains unresolved.

According to mod site LibertyCity, Take-Two requested that many of the mods be removed before issuing a DMCA strike and permanently removing them from the site. Two of the removed mods are directly related to GTA 4 and are the oldest and most downloaded mods on the site. There's also the mod The Lost and Damned Unlocked, which is a GTA 4 mod released in 2009, replacing Niko Bellic with racer Johnny Klebitz.

Additionally, one of the takedown requests targeted a GTA IV EEFLC progress file (65%), which allows players to start the game at 65% completion.

The move to remove mods doesn't seem too surprising. A recent industry leak suggests that Rockstar's next remake could be GTA 4 with The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion packs. Although no proof has been given, the previous Take-Two takedown of GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition mods has indicated that GTA 4 is likely to get the job. do the same again.

The removals in the past year show that it seems that the publisher will 'face off' GTA mods. Regardless of whether these actions are aimed at remaking GTA 4, modders and community members are all very disappointed. The company has spent time improving the classic GTA games, and there may be more takedown requests in the future.
